Ja’mur Zoysia is an excellent mid-bladed variety known for its exceptionally soft feel, balanced shade tolerance, and superior heat resilience. This versatile cultivar provides a quick spring green-up and maintains its vibrant color late into the fall season.
Key Specifications:
– Texture & Plushness: It features a medium leaf texture with high plushness, creating a dense, cushioned surface.
– Shade & Drought Tolerance: It has medium tolerance in these areas; it requires 6-7 hours of direct sunlight and benefits from supplemental irrigation, though it can survive drought periods by going dormant. Notably, it has been recognized as one of the most shade-tolerant zoysia grasses available and is often used as a replacement for St. Augustine.
– Heat & Cold Tolerance: It offers high heat tolerance and medium cold tolerance, characterized by early spring recovery.
– Traffic & Wear: The variety has medium wear tolerance, making it suitable for children, small to medium dogs, and light recreational use.
– Maintenance: It requires medium maintenance; while its dense growth naturally suppresses weeds, it requires regular fertilization and irrigation.
– Curb Appeal: Proper care results in a uniform, weed-resistant “carpet” look that provides high curb appeal.
Winter Appearance & Versatility:
The grass will transition to a dormant brown once temperatures consistently drop below freezing, though it typically stays green longer than many other varieties. Ja’mur Zoysia blends well with Meyer Zoysia, making it a great alternative, and it is also compatible for blending with Brazos.
